It’s already day 4 of our countdown. That means we’re in the top 10, the best of the best. Tune in tomorrow as we wrap things up to find out who is number one. Any predictions on the top 5?
Top JAV Stars of the Decade: 10 -6
10: Yuma Asami (2005 – present)
Yuma is one of the most dominant forces in JAV today. Despite being around for a while now, her videos still sell like hot cakes. It’s easy to see why with her bubbly personality and eager sex performances. She’s also got a unique look about her that makes her stand out from the sea of porn stars of today. Yuma picked up the Best Actress award at the 2006 Moodyz Awards and the Grand Prix award at the 2006 AV Actress Grand Prix.
9: Nao Oikawa (2000 – 2004)
Nao was one of the most popular AV stars of the earlier part of the decade. Her success even brought her some mainstream recognition, where she was a b-list level celebrity. She continues to work in mainstream entertainment. She was the top selling AV star of 2003 on online distributor DMM, and she was #2 overall in 2004, despite retiring half way through the year. She won 2nd place for top actress in the 2002 X City Grand Prix Awards (Ryoko Mitake was first), and she took home a couple awards at the 2005 Sky PerfecTV awards. Nao left us with some uncensored work before her retirement.
8. Nana Natsume (2004 – 2007)
For a few years Nana Natsume was the face of Soft on Demand. She stayed with them over her entire porn career. She continues to work in the mainstream entertainment industry. She was named Best Actress at the 2004 Takeshi Kitano awards, and at the 2005 SOD awards she took home top actress and the SOD Award for her contributions to they company image andsales. She defended her Best Actress Award for the SOD awards the following year in 2006. In 2006 she also starred in the AV Actress Grand Prix Best Video.
7. Ran Asakawa (2001 – 2003)
At a time when young looking, cute porn stars were all the rage, Ran Asakawa broke the mold with her more mature looks. Her career started off slow, but in 2002 her output took off big time. She made 212 videos that year, and her agency petitioned the Guinness Book of World Records to include this impressive feat as a world record. Guinness doesn’t include sex records though. Ran proceeded to top herself by appearing in 304 videos in 2003. I assume many of these were re-releases, but still, that’s a lot of pounding to take! She retired after that, but in 2004 she resurfaced in a bunch of uncensored work. In some weird news, it was widely reported that she had died in 2006, prompting Ran to publicly come out to assure everyone she was still alive and well. At the 2002 X City Grand Prix Awards, she won the Nastiest Actress Award.
6. Honoka (2004 – 2008)
One of the biggest news items of 2008 was the retirement of Honoka. Honoka left the industry while she was still one of the top actresses in the industry. She was the face of Premium for the last couple years of her career. She has continued to stay in the entertainment spotlight after her retirement. She won the best actress award at the 2006 AV Actress Grand Prix awards and at the 2007 Adult Broadcasting Awards.

thanks for the great article. although lists like these are certainly subjective, it still helps put the decade in perspective. i’m guessing sora will be no. 1, right? of the big names that haven’t made it to the list, there’s yua aida (my fave), kaede, elly, maybe chocoball mukai? hehe.:)
ha ha, well I can tell you chocoball isn’t on the list. I actually didn’t even think to consider male talent, although he’s certainly made a name for himself!
Yeah, these lists are subjective, which is why I thought it might generate some interesting discussions.
